A senior six candidate at Bukoyo Secondary School in Iganga has committed suicide by hanging after school management sent him home to outstanding fee balances.
Denis Tuke, 20, was among the candidates waiting to sit for this year’s Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams due on November 18.
It is alleged that on Wednesday, the school management asked him to go back home to collect school dues amounting to shillings 1.2 million for the second and third terms.
However, eye witnesses say that the deceased did not go home for the fears of being punished by his parents after he allegedly misappropriated the money.
The Busoga East Police Spokesperson ASP Diana Nandaula confirmed to the report stating that Tuke’ body was found lying helpless on a rope made from a mosquito net inside the school dormitory by students who had gone back to the dormitory for lunch. They informed the school authorities about it, who informed police about it.
“He wrote a letter apologising to the school for eating the fees and as he went back to the dormitory, he got a mosquito net and hanged himself,” Nandaula said
The body is currently at Nakavule Hospital in Iganga district for the postmortem while police investigation into the matter are ongoing
