Uganda’s oldest political party, DP has sternly warned the government against relying on the information given to them by Moses Simbwa on abductions and human torture.
On Friday last week, during the NRM 38th Liberation Day celebration in Jinja, Simbwa made a public confession in which he alleged that he was used by the opposition to falsely claim that he was tortured by the security in order to tarnish the image of President Museveni’s government.
“I have been used by the opposition for chaotic scenes to stain the image of your government. I have come to apologise to you and Uganda at large,” Ssimbwa said.
But, DP says this is foolery by some politicians who need to impress the president for their personal gains.
Ismail Kiirya, the DP acting spokesperson said at a press conference on Tuesday that Simbwa is a threat to this country and should be arrested and aligned to courts of law
“Let’s not politicize this issue more so the NRM, Mr Simbwa is a threat this this country because he is most likely to do something bigger than what he revealed on your day,” Kiirya explained.
“We want to urge government not to just take that statement for granted because it still remains a crime in the laws of Uganda,” he added.
Yesterday, another political party the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) said Simbwa is an opportunist whose claims should not be lent an ear.
Asuman Odaka, NEED party Secretary General said Simbwa is a political prostitute who goes to every political party seeking for attention and money urging the government to intelligently investigate him.
In addition to the DP and NEED suggestions, the FDC said in a separate press conference that security should arrest Simbwa to aid in investigation into alleged opposition members abducting and violating human rights of Ugandans.
John Kikonyogo, the FDC party spokesperson said the government is giving a vote of no confidence to its own security for taking as gossip truth claims that the opposition is using drones to abduct and torture its supporters. He tasked the government through its intelligence agencies to interrogate Simbwa so that he can name and shame whoever tortured him and those inflicting torture on Ugandans.
