Renowned Ugandan singer Kalifa Aganaga, real name Mukiibi Sadat, has been confirmed as the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flag bearer for the forthcoming Kawempe North Constituency by-election.
The FDC party leadership officially endorsed Aganaga, at the party’s headquarters Najjanankumbi Kampala on Wednesday.
“It’s Official!,” the party shared on their social media platforms.
The party believes in Aganaga’s ability to represent the people of Kawempe North in Parliament. His entry into politics adds to the growing list of entertainers seeking elective positions in Uganda.
Speaking after his endorsement, Aganaga expressed gratitude to the party and pledged to advocate for youth empowerment, improved social services, and economic opportunities for his constituents.
The by-election was triggered by passing of the former MP, Muhammad Ssegirinya who died at Rubaga Hospital on January 9.
Aganaga will face competition from candidates representing other political parties and independent aspirants in what is expected to be a highly contested race. They include Hajjati Nambi Faridah (NRM), other parties such as NUP, UPC, DP are yet to declare their candidates.
The Electoral Commission recently announce the official election roadmap for Kawempe North by-election and polling date is scheduled for March 13.
