At least two persons have been arrested in Kabale district for stealing motor vehicle plates.
The suspects have been identified as Christmas Dominic alias Chris 27, a reknown businessman dealing in motor vehicles and a resident of Bugarama village Buhira parish / sub county in Kabale district and Arnold Kwasiima 30, a driver and resident of Mparo cell Nyarurambi parish Rwamucuucu sub county in Rukiga district.
The duo were arrested on May 24th after they were tracked by security operations when they stole number plates from about 15 vehicles from areas of Kabahangara cell Karubanda ward southern division in Kabale municipality, Rubaya and Butanda subcounties in Kabale district in the night of between 22nd May and 23rd May,2021.
The Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate has said that police conducted a search in the suspect’s homes discovered and exhibited double number plates for eight vehicles.
He also disclosed that police is hunting for several others part he racket that has been terrorizing areas of Kigezi by stealing motor vehicle number plates.
“Operations to apprehend their accomplices are underway,” Maate said.
He appealed to victims whose number plates have been plucked off their vehicles to report the matter to Kabale police station with proof of ownership.
