Two people are feared dead after a two-floor building still under construction they were working at collapsed on Monday night.
The construction belonging to Jinja city-based Speke Courts hotel collapsed yesternight at around 7pm while casual laborers were finalizing their day’s duty.
An insider who spoke to this publication on conditions of anynomity said that there were six casual laborers on-site at the time of the accident.
“One of them was severely injured and is currently admitted at a private health facility, three reportedly fled, two workers are alleged to be trapped in the building rubbles,” source said
Police from Jinja have already started recording statements from hotel mangers and were yet to excavate the accident scene to rescue the two workers allegedly still trapped under the rubbles.
Morris Niyonzima, the officer in charge of Jinja Central Police Station said detectives had tasked the hotel managers to account for the casual laborers on site at the time of the accident.
He also said they had cordoned off the scene to deter illegal access and possible contamination.
Twaha Gishebi, the Budondo ward councilor who doubles as the Jinja City Finance Secretary attributes the accident to the use of poor-quality materials.
