Uganda Christian University law lecturer, and city lawyer with Maldes Law Firm, Raphael Okiot has died in a car crash in Entebbe.
The incident occured on Wednesday 17th April, 2024 at Nkumba University traffic lights when a cement mixer truck belonging to Seyani Brothers registration number UAN 836D lost control and rammed into the barriers in the middle of the road before falling onto another vehicle, Mitsubishi RVR registration number UBQ 371P in which Okiot was traveling.
The deceased has also been identified as the husband to Kyenjojo Grade I Magistrate, Ms Faith Irene Kwagala. He was reportedly travelling to Entebbe for a court session.
He is also served as the co-founder at Technolegal Advisory Centre Uganda, Kampala.
Reports indicate that the truck driver survived and was by press time receiving treatment at a health facility in Entebbe.
A 2023 Annual Traffic and Safety Report shows that Uganda recorded a 30% increase in road fatalities registered with the police in 2023, with 4,179 lives lost.
“At least 23,608 road crashes were recorded in 2023 compared to 20,394 cases registered in 2022,” read a report in parts. MHSRIP
