Masaka city based Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi has made it to the Pepsi University Football League 2022 finals after eliminating the defending champions Uganda Christian University.
Sunny Kaija scored the only goal of the game as Uganda Martyrs edged UCU 1-0 in the second leg of the semi-final tie played in Nkozi on Thursday.
This ensured that the hosts equaled this encounter having lost by the same score line in the first leg played in Mukono a week ago.
After a 1-1 stalemate on aggregate the game went into the penalty shootouts and Uganda Martyrs won by 5-4 goals. Kaija scored a decisive penalty that gave UMU victory AUD-20220514-WA0018
Uganda Martyrs return to the final for the first time since 2017 when they went all the way and won their only Pepsi University Football League title at the expense of two-time champions Makerere University Business School 2-0.
Uganda Martyrs will play the victor between St. Lawrence University and MUBS in the final that is scheduled for 12th November 2022 at Lugogo.
St. Lawrence edged MUBS 2-1 in the first leg of the other semifinal on Tuesday in Kavule, they will meet again next week on Tuesday, November 1st in Nakawa for the second leg.
