KANUNGU
A 26-year-old man was violently killed in Kanungu district.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson identified the deceased as Brian Tumwesigyire, a resident of Murehe B village, Kakyinga parish, Bugongi sub-county, Kanungu.
It is alleged that on July 5, at around 23:00hrs, the deceased together with his other accomplices assaulted Martin Kamugisha, 30, the suspect and resident of the same address who they stoned in the back and on the right side of the nose as he walked home.
Out of provocation, Kamugisha who was bleeding furiously profusely decided to run after the attackers and struck Tumwesigyire with a panga, inflicting a deep head wound.
“The two agreed to treat themselves since they all had injuries inflicted on them by each other. After that, the suspect went and reported a case of assault at Bugongi police post, while the deceased went home and slept without informing his parents,” said Maate.
Tumwesigyire (the deceased) was rushed to Kambuga hospital the following morning where he died before getting treated.
Police was notified of the incident, a postmortem was done and the suspect arrested from the same hospital where he is receiving treatment from under guard. Police inquiries underway under file reference number CRB/438/2024
