A 12-year-old boy was killed by a motor grader in Makindye village, Mazima Town Council, Kabale district on January 19. An incident report filed by the Kabale police said the juvenile died at the scene after being run over by the grader.
It’s alleged that the driver of the grader UG2009w, Rwehahira Deogratias, 54, was grading a road from Mukokye Kahondo when children started following him from behind which he didn’t know. Further reports revealed that the deceased held himself on the grader which ran over hime while the driver reversed.
“When he started reversing, he had noise and stopped then other children told him that he had knocked their friend,” Police reported.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson identified the deceased as Ruben Nahwera, 12, a pupil at Mukokye primary school. Police visited the scene, carried out a postmortem and the body was left to the relatives for burial.
Maate noted that the driver was arrested for causing a fatal accident on reference TAR 07/2024, but later released on police bond.
