Archbishop Calls on Christians to Behave Responsibly During Christmas Season

Journalists blocked from Martyrs Day Venue

Archbishop Lambert Beinomugisha during his closing remarks at the Mbarara archdiocese Christmas carols  held at the Nyamitanga cathedral gardens which pulled Christians of all faiths. The church of Uganda was represented by choirs from All Saints Church Mbarara and St James cathedral Ruharo. The other choirs were those from Catholic parishes that make Mbarara archdiocese. Archbishop Lambert called on all Christians to behave themselves well as they approach the festivals. Lambert concluded the event by remarking on the success of the Christmas carols in conveying the gospel message through music. He hoped that everyone present had gained valuable lessons from the songs performed.

The Mbarara city Lord Mayor Mugabe Robert Kakyebezi  commended the Archbishop and organizers of the Christmas carols function for promoting unity as emphasized by NRM and President Museveni`s manifesto.
Speaking at the event, he requested that the function be held annually and wished the gathering a Merry Christmas. He also urged everyone to be security conscious during the festive season, as crime rates tend to increase.

Evelyn Kikafunda Ninsiima the president of the Green Environment Program (GEP) an attending guest, shared her thoughts on the importance of addressing gender-based violence (GBV). She emphasized the need for husbands to love their wives, wives to respect their husbands, and children to respect their parents. As an environmental specialist, she also announced her donation of 2000 trees to the Archdiocese of Mbarara.

Rev Father Deusdedit Ekikondanjojo, the Mbarara archdiocese pastoral coordinator, expressed his gratitude to all attendees and thanked the Archbishop for his continuous support in hosting such functions in the Catholic Church. He called upon Christians to behave responsibly during the Christmas season to avoid engaging in any negative actions.

Dr. Sheldon Mwesigwa, the Bishop of Ankole Diocese, extended his appreciation to the organizers of the Christmas carols and Archbishop Lambert Beinomugisha for his visionary leadership. He highlighted the historic close relationship between the Catholic Church and the Anglican Church, pledging to continue cooperation. Dr. Sheldon encouraged Christians to engage with faith-based radio stations and television programs, as they contribute to personal growth in faith and can help reduce cases of domestic violence.
