OBITUARY:
Prominent Bank of Ugandan lawyer and former President of the Uganda Law Society Dr. Joseph Byamugisha, has passed on.
Dr. Byamugisha passed on Tuesday morning at Nakasero Hospital where he had been admitted for few weeks.
The blacksmith news was broken by the Uganda Law Society on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon.
“It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the death of our member and past President Dr. Joseph B. Byamugisha of J.B Byamugisha Advocates.” ULS announced.
Dr. Byamugisha’s name gained more popularity in the lawsuit was lawsuit by the Bank of Uganda against businessman Sudhir Ruparelia in the Crane Bank case saga inwhich he was the lead attorney.
The central bank came under the spotlight after the closure of Crane Bank Limited backfired with both Parliament and the Auditor General faulting the BoU officials in the middle of the transaction. They closed Crane Bank Limited, previously one of the best performing banks before controversially transferring it to Dfcu Bank in January 2017.
Bank of Uganda, however, recently announced its withdrawal of the appeal against Dr. Sudhir and his Meera Investments, and agreed to pay billions in costs as compensation to the falsely accused.
