Archbishop Lambert Urges Ugandans to Embrace Peace, Resurrection Light

Rt. Rev. Raphael p’Mony Wokorach, the Bishop of Nebbi catholic diocese has been appointed the new Archbishop of Gulu. He replaces the Most Rev John Baptist Odama who is resigning from the pastoral care of the archdiocese upon clocking the canonical age limit of 75 years.

The announcement of Wokorach was made this afternoon by the apostolic Nuncio Luigi Bianco.

“His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Gulu, the Rt. rev. Raphael p’Mony Wokorach, M.C.C.J (Combonian Missionary of the Heart of Jesus], until now the Bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese,” the letter reads.

In a letter, the Apostolic Nuncio also announced that the Pope accepted the resignation of the current Archbishop John Baptist Odama who was appointed the Apostolic Administrator until the day of canonical possession by the new Archbishop.

“The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Archdiocese of Gulu presented by Archbishop John Baptist Odama, for reaching the age limit, according to Can 401, & 1 of the Code of Canon Law,” the Apostolic Nuncio announced.

The Nuncio commended Archbishop Odama’s great services to the metropolitan Archdiocese of Gulu and blessed the new Archbishop in his pastoral journey.

Odama is the first Metropolitan Archbishop of Gulu (1999-2024) and has served the Archdiocese for twenty-five (25) years. He is also the first Bishop of the Diocese of Nebbi where he served for 3yrs from 1996-1999.

“The Apostolic Nunciature desires to congratulate the new Archbishop Raphael p’Mony Wokorach, M.C.C.J and invokes abundant blessings upon his pastoral ministry in that local Church,” said Luigi Bianco, Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda.

About Bishop Wokorach

Most Rev. Raphael p’Mony Wokorach, M.C.C.J. was born on 21 January 1961. He was Ordained a priest of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus on 25 September 1993.He was Ordained Bishop of Nebbi on on 14 August 2021.

The Nuncio did not however divulge into details of the consecration of the new Archbishop. Parrots Media has learned that the dates for the installation and consecration of the new ArchBishop will be communicated by the Archdiocese soon.
