Mbarara City Central Division (CPS) Police in the Rwizi Region have successfully apprehended 41 individuals suspected of being involved in criminal activities, including theft and drug possession. The operation, conducted on December 13th, 2023, was initiated based on intelligence gathered by the police.

Among the apprehended suspects, there were 11 male juveniles, 5 female adults, and 25 male adults. They were found in possession of marijuana and various breaking implements. The arrests took place in multiple locations within Mbarara City, including the Kakoba roundabout, tree shade, Lubiri, and behind the London Arcade corridors.

The crackdown was a direct response to numerous complaints received from members of the public and the local business community regarding a surge in shop break-ins, incidents of waylaying, and property snatching in the city. Police responded swiftly to curb these criminal activities, ensuring the safety and security of the city’s residents and businesses.

The suspects are currently undergoing due process, with their case files being processed to facilitate their appearance in court. The police aim to bring the perpetrators to justice and deter similar criminal behavior in the future.

As the festive season approaches, law enforcement agencies in the Rwizi Region are ramping up efforts to crack down on criminal elements. The holiday season tends to witness an increase in criminal activities, and the police are committed to ensuring the safety of the public. However, they also urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.

SP Kasasira Samson, the spokesperson for the Rwizi Region, emphasized the importance of community involvement in tackling crime. He called upon the public to cooperate with the police and play an active role in creating a secure environment for everyone. By working together, law enforcement and citizens can effectively combat criminal activities and maintain peace and harmony in Mbarara City.
