The Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, Rtd Maj. Jessica Alupo has disclosed government commitment to compensate families whose members were killed and injured in the recent explosions.
The VP made the remarks on Tuesday at St. Francis hospital Nsambya, after visiting greater Bushenyi Regional Police Commander, Adrian Kwetegyereza, one of the victims of Swift Bus suicide bombings in Mpigi on Monday.
She told journalists that the terrorists who attacked Uganda are cowards and will be soon defeated.
“Today morning I checked on Adrian Kwetegyereza , one of the survivors of bomb attacks. Terrorists who attacked Uganda, are cowards and will all be defeated. I do pass my sympathies, to all those who have lost their loved ones and those who got injured, in those bomb attacks,” she said.
She did not however divulge into details on how much funds governmemnt will spend in compensating the victimized families nor disclose the compensation dates.
Uganda has experienced two explosions in less than three days a week after UK issued possible terror attacks from external forces. Two persons including the suicide bomber who was targeting a Swift Bus died in the explosions.
According to police, a 23-year-old, Isaac Matovu alias Muzafalu died in the blast after he denoted the bomb in a swift Bus that was travelling from Kampala to Bushenyi in Southwestern Uganda.
Intelligence reports indicate that Matove blew himself up with a bomb on his lap which exploded and killed him instantly leaving over 51 passengers including RPC Kwetegyereza nursing wounds.
The Bus incident took place moments after Islamic State terrorists claimed responsibility of the first bomb attacks on Digida Pork Joint in Komamboga Kawempe Disivion Kampala.
As a mean of ensuring governmemt support to the victims, VP Alupo handed over an envelope with unestimated amount of money to help RPC Kwetegyereza family in footing the hospital bills pledging to extend similar support to other victims who were severally injured.
