The Chairperson of Electoral Commission Uganda Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon has called upon candidates and political Parties in the Busongora county south by election to give the agents copies of the Voters Register and formal appointment letters when deploying them to observe Elections.
Byabakama was speaking to stakeholders in Kasese during the Pre-polling meeting in preparation for tomorrow Thursday 18th August by-election for the Member of Parliament Busongora County South constituency, Kasese District.
During the meeting, he clarified that notebooks cannot be used to verify the credentials of a voter as required neither is a candidate’s poster an equivalent to an appointment letter.
Paul Bukenya, the commission’s acting Spokesperson says that Commission issued a copy of the National Voter’s Register to the participanting candidates to enable them through their agents verify the eligibility of voters at the polling Station.
The Director of Operations Electoral Commission Uganda, Richard Kamugisha has said that all polling materials have been delivered to the Returning Officer in the presence of the candidates and political Parties’ agents.
“All candidates and political parties have been given serial numbers for all the parked polling materials,” he said.
He added that the polling materials will be internally distributed in all the 11 (eleven) sub-counties in the Constituency tomorrow Thursday morning of 18th August 2022, for eventual distribution to all the polling stations, to ensure that polling commences on time.
He urged the designated Candidates’ and their agents to report to the Office of the Returning Officer before 4:30 am tomorrow to observe the dispatch of the polling kits to their respective polling stations.
Ismeel Atwijukire, the Returning Officer Kasese District assured stakeholders that all is well set for the polling and Tallying of votes for the by-election.
He appeals to the Candidates’ agents and observers to acquire the necessary accreditations to access the Tally Centre and the polling stations to avoid unnecessary standoffs during Elections.
At least six candidates will be voted in tomorrow’s election after the seventh candidate, Juma Muzenero announced he was quiting out of the race.
