President Yoweri K Museveni has appointed Justice Alfonse Chigamoi Owinyi Dollo as the new Chief Justice of Uganda replacing Justice Bart Magunda Katureebe who recently retired after clocking the mandatory retirement age of 75yrs.
Owinyi, 65, was by appointment time serving as Acting Chief Justice after receiving instruments of service from Justice Bart Katureebe on July22nd, waiting for the president to appoint a substantive Chief Justice.
Before being appointed Acting CJ, he was Deputising Bart Katureebe as Deputy CJ a post he held since 2017 when he replaced Justice Steven Kavuma who retired after clocking the recommended retirement age of 70yrs.
In the new appointments, President Museveni also appointed Justice Richard Buteera of the Supreme Court as the Deputy CJ. Buteera replaces Owinyi Dollo.
The appointed awaits for verification by the Appointing Committee to commence their duties officially.

Hon Justice Richard Buteera, the newly appointed Deputy Chief Justice, is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda.
He was on July23, 2020, sworn in as the member of the 5th Judicial Service Commission (JSC) after being appointed by President Museveni, replacing Justice Jotham Tumwesigye who retired last year.
Justice Buteera was to represent the judiciary to the JCS.
JCS is responsible for recruiting and disciplining of errant judicial officers.
