Dennis Tukwasiibwe, a youthful teacher in the district was on the night of 21 February, 2023 arrested at his home in Bugongo village, Bitereko subcounty, Ruhinda North, in Mitooma district by police led by the Mitooma DPC on alleged orders of Hon. Tayebwa on allegations that he threatened and blackmailed him. He was released on police bond the following morning and asked to keep on reporting to police OCCID Mitooma district something he heeded to since March 1.

It is alleged that before the arrest, Tukwasiibwe had an interaction with the deputy speaker on economic injustice to political misunderstanding. The latter after sent a mafia (identity protected for legal reasons) to speak to the victim. The ‘mafia’ reportedly used his phone to record the conversation without Tukwasiibwe’s consent and later shared the recordings to the deputy speaker something that could have sparked the arrest.

In August 1 complaint filed addressed to resident senior state attorney for Mitooma chief magistrate area, Caroline Kesubi, the teacher claims that security confiscated his mobile phones before being released on bond and attempts to have them given back to him have failed.

August 1, 2023 complaint filed by Denis Tukwatsibwe to Mitooma Chief Magistrate Area requesting the office of resident attorney general to intervene in his case with Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa for justice and guidance

He says that despite reporting to the OCCID for over four months, his case file number 04/22/02/2023 at Mitooma Police Station has not been referred to any reputable court for mention.

“I have been reporting on bond since 01/03/2023 before OCCID Mitooma district in a good faith,” the complaint read in parts

“However, I find it an injustice and unfairness to me to keep reporting yet the file and evidence seemed conclusive,” he added.

Tukwasiibwe now wants the resident attorney to intervene in the matter and have his case file referred to court for mention.

“It is my humble request to this office to intervene and call the said file for mention and guidance,” he said
