Police have arrested the Kiruhura district vice chairman, Adson Atuhaire, 30, over rape.
SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson says the victim whose identity is concealed is a 20-year-old student in Mbarara city.
The incident occured on September 8, 2023, at around 2PM in Rwentindo zone, Kakooba ward in Mbarara city.
It is alleged that on the fateful day, the victim led Atuhaire and other occupants in his Toyota Premio car registration number UAT 238Q to show them the direction of Golden Leaf Bar. The suspect later asked to meet the student in the evening which she accepted.
“On that evening, the suspect picked the victim from her hostel in Kyapotani Kakooba and took her to one of the shops in Mbarara where they bought food stuffs and snacks,” Enanga explained.
The suspect offered to drop the student back to her hostel, unfortunately, as they were returning to the hostel, he changed the route and drove to unknown direction taking advantage of raping the student.
“The victim reported to the authorities who later tracked and arrested Atuhaire,” Enanga said.
Police says investigations into the matter are ongoing.
