The Minister of Gender Labour and Social Development (MGLSD), Betty Amongi tasked the newly inaugurated Labor Advisory Board (LAB) to make sure all issues of employers and employees are worked upon for social economic development of the country.

The 13 member board chaired by Nicholas John Okwir – Chairperson; Ex – Officio Federation of Uganda
Employers Board in close collaboration with various stakeholder, will ensure effective governance in the labour and employment affairs of the country, to promote fair labour practices, protect workers’ rights, and drive sustainable
social- economic growth.

During the inauguration ceremony at the Ministry headquarters Simbamanyo house in kampala, Amongi said that the new LAB signifies a renewed commitment by MGLSD to addressing the policy and enforcement of labour standards gaps as well as fulfilling the objectives of the Employment and Industrial Relations.

She added that the multi-sectoral composition of the new members of the board will contribute to the
Board’s efficiency and effectiveness in decision making and overall service delivery.

Other Board members include Peter Ssamula Kiwanuka – Member, Federation of Uganda Employers, Paul Kavuma – Member, Federation of Uganda Employers, Beatrice Aciro – Member, Central Organisation of Free Trade Unions (COFTU), Mauku Moses – Member, National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU), Muhanguzi Emmanuel – Member, Assistant Commissioner, Local Economic Development, Ministry of Local Government, Kabaale Mohammed Ngati – Member, Assistant Commissioner, Social Services, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic development, Safinah Kisu Museene – Member, Commissioner, Health Education and Training, Ministry of Education and Sports, Sophie Nakazzi Bawonga – Member.

Others are Assistant Commissioner Human Resource Management, Ministry of Public Service, Irene Lugayizi – Member, Commissioner, Legal Drafting (Subsidiary), Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs,Denis Ainebyoona – Member, Commissioner, Industry and Technology (a.i.), Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Katiisa Paul – Member, Representing National Council for Persons with Disabilities and Alex Asiimwe – Secretary/ Ex-Officio of the LAB, Commissioner, Labour, Industrial Relations and Productivity, MGLSD.

Meanwhile Nicholas John Okwir the LAB chairperson has vowed to settle all issues of employers and employees.
