Bobi Wine and other People Power leaders detained at Kansangati police custody after police locked their first consultation meeting on Monday

The Uganda Police Force has refuted allegations that it conceded mistakes made in the blocked Bobi Wine’s people power consultation meetings.

In the Evening hours of Thursday January9th,2020, social and mainstream media notifications were conjested with news feeds from the people power team indicating that police has admitted committing mistakes in their policing activities during the group’s consultation meetings. As such, the people power say would design new consultation programme.
However, earlier this day police has come out with a controversial narrative on its meeting with Electoral Commission, People Power chief Hon Robert Kyagulanyi and a delegation of other political stakeholders denying reports that they admitted mistakes made in policing during the people power consultation meetings. The meeting was held at EC Headquarters along Jinja Road in Kampala. 
Police PRO Fred Enanga
According to the force’s mouthpiece CP Fred Enanga, the meeting resolved that:
  • There will be no processions during the consultations.
  • The Electoral Commission would formulate regulations, Under Section 88 of the Presidential Elections Act; and
  • The ten (10) areas proposed by “People Power”, be formally presented before the committee, for further discussions and way forward in the best interests of the Electoral Commission, Police and “People Power” group.
Enanga, further expressed that the People power delegation misconceived the purporse of the meeting and rushed to disseminate misleading information to the public.

“…It was however, unfortunate that the representatives from the “People Power” group, chose to deliberately misinform the public, when they presented their draft proposals as the official position of the committee.  This conduct showed that they seemed not to have understood the objective of the meeting.  They further claimed that the police delegation had admitted to making mistakes while policing the consultations,…” He continued.
This statement comes after the People Power Chief Hon Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine press conference at the movement offices in Kamwokya on Thursday where he told journalists that police had conceded misconducts in pursuit of their duties during their blocked electoral consultations.
This according to Enanga showed that they (people power delegation) seemed not to have understood the objective of the meeting.

He said that police has all recordings of the meeting to support the ongoing discussion.
It should be remembered that on Monday January6th, police besieged Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Gayaza Kansangati Wakiso district where they blocked people power first consultation meeting before starting to spread pepper and firing live bullets.
Other consultation meetings were blocked in Gulu and Lira respectively in a pretext that the organizers lacked legal avenues despite the prior police permissions.
CP Enanga called upon all political players to respect and observe the law in the conduct of their political activities. He also pledged police’s aim to preserve professional standards in electoral activities as well as respect of the rights of all politicians.
