The Vice Chancellor for Clarke International University (CIU) Dr. Rose Clarke Nanyonga has appealed to the public to embrace health camp programs as a move to get access to quality healthcare and know about their health statuses.

Dr. Rose expressed this during the Clarke International University community day held at the university grounds in Muyenga Kampala district on Saturday.

The Vice Chancellor while addressing the gathering stressed that the university has always put the health of its students and community members at the fore front in their activities and that through the university community day, they have proven beyond doubt that they have been able to promote public health.

She added, “I appeal to people to use the existing opportunities and engage in health camps to know about their health statuses. We know that our hospitals sometimes do not have all the facilities but using communal medical camps like these, they can ably access these services for free.”

During the community camp, residents received a number of free healthcare services such cervical cancer screening, Hepatitis B Virus (HPV), Blood Pressure, diabetes, HIV testing, guidance and counselling among others.

Dr. Rose also appealed to organizations to join CIU in offering free healthcare services in dental care, eye care services among others.

Evelyn Ayot, the CIU academic registrar said healthcare in Uganda is very expensive in private and public hospitals stating that hosting free medical camps bring people together to receive quality services and helps in disease prevention and control.

The health camp was funded by CIU and partners such as Lungei Foundation, l
East Africa International Medical Center , Hepatitis Aids Organization, Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS),
IAA, ICEA Uganda, Prudential Uganda, Kisugu Health Center.

Among the beneficiaries of this health camp are students from schools like Kansanga Sss, Newcastle SSS in Kansanga, St Denis Sebugwawo SS, St Agnes Junior School and Clarke Junior School and residents in neighboring communities.
