Rwakirungura emerged victorious in the highly anticipated Rugonde Cup, a football tournament that brought together eight parishes from Buyanja sub county and four wards from Buyanja town Council that started in November 2023.The excitement was palpable as teams showcased their skills and determination on the field.

Kicking off the event was a thrilling match between Buyanja Town Council sports academy and Kyamakanda sports academy, the curtain raisers for the main tournament. This spectacle set the tone for an action-packed day of football.

Rwakirungura beat Nyakaina on penalties after drawing 1:1 in the first ninety minutes and was crowned the champions of the Rugonde cup 2023.

Caleb Rugonde, the esteemed guest of honor at the event, expressed his commitment to fostering the development of sports in Buyanja. He assured attendees that efforts were underway to secure sponsors who would contribute to the growth of sports in the area.

Rugonde, a member of the influential Rugonde family, highlighted the unifying power of sports. He emphasized that sports bring people together in large numbers, enabling them to forge new friendships and strengthen community bonds.

Expressing his gratitude to the referee for his professionalism, Rugonde pledged to enhance the prizes for future winners of the tournament. In a gesture of goodwill, he presented 750,000 Uganda shillings to the champions, Rwakirungura, as a token of appreciation for their exceptional performance.
