A security guard attached to  Saracen security company has been arrested and is being held for questioning in connection with the shooting death of a 55 year old man in Kazo District. The incident occurred on July 15, 2024, at around 9:45pm in Kazo II, Kazo Town Council.

According to police reports, the security guard, identified as Mujurizi Micheal, 43, was on duty at the farm of Mr. Ruyondo Kwame when he saw the deceased, Sunday Emmanuel, a peasant and resident of Kazo II, allegedly armed with a panga and gathering firewood. The guard shot Emmanuel in the back as he tried running away.

The incident was reported to police on July 16, 2024, by the manager of Saracen Security Company, which employs the suspect. Police visited the scene, documented the crime, and conducted a primary examination on the body, revealing that the deceased was shot from behind and the bullet exited through the chest.

A cartridge was recovered at the scene, and the weapon used, a CAR gun with three live ammunition, was retrieved. The body of the deceased was taken to Ruhoko Health Center IV mortuary in Ibanda for postmortem.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing, and the suspect is being held to assist with the inquiry.

Kasasira Samson, the Rwizi police spokesperson condemned the use of excessive force by security personnel and called for the need for proper training and accountability measures to prevent such tragic incidents. He urged the community to remain calm as police investigate the matter.
