Six people have been confirmed dead and three others injured in a fatal road accident along Ntungamo – Rukungiri road.
The accident occured on Wednesday morning (June 12) at about 0610hrs at Kakiika along Ntungamo -Rukungiri road.
Micheal Kananura, the spokesperson for traffic and road safety directorate said the accident involved two vehicles namely a Toyota Hiace registration number UBN 337H and an Isuzu Bus registration number UAP 385U belonging to Kasaaba bus company.
According to Kananura, the accident occured after the bus veered off the road and collided with the omnibus parked on the roadside after it developed a puncture killing six people on the spot.
“Six people, including the driver, the turn man, and a police officer attached to Nsangi Police Station died on spot, and three others were injured in the accident,” Kananura said.
The victims were rushed to Devine Health and Ntungamo Specialist Medical Centres for medical attention while bodies have been conveyed to Rwashameire Health Centre IV for post-mortem examination.
Kananura noted that the motor vehicles involved in the accident were towed to Ntungamo Central Police as inquiries commence.
