A two years old baby boy in the oil city of Hoima has been hospitalised at Destiny medical center in Kiryatete after he was hit by a stray bullet fired by a Police flying squad Unit officer attached to Albertine regional police.

This incident took place at Kiryatete in Hoima East division, Hoima city along Hoima-Fortpotoal road when security operatives under police flying squad unit were chasing suspected car thieves who were travelling in a Toyota Wish registration number UBB 533X.

The gunshot victim has been identified as Altakabir Kyakuhaire, a son to Ashraf Kyakuhaire and Margarete Atuhurira, residents of Bulemwa village in Hoima West division.

Margarete Atuhuirira, the victim’s mother says the driver of a Toyota wish knocked a Toyota Ipsum car that had people in plain clothes and one of them opened fire at the occupants of the Toyota wish which she suspects could have hit her son whom she was carrying on her laps.

Ashraf Kyakuhaire, the father to the boy has said that the minor sustained a bullet injury above his right eye .

He wants Police to treat his son since he was innocently hit their officer on duty.

Innocent Kusiima, the medical clinical officer at Destiny medical center where the minor is receiving treatment has said that the minor has sustained a deep cut wound with a minor borne scratch and noted that the child is responding to treatment and hopes for the best outcome.

The regional police spokesperson ASP Julius Hakiza has noted that police regrets the incident saying the boy was hit by a jagged bullet after it hit a hard surface.Unfortunately, he has not explained whether Police will foot the medical bills.

He has also explained that the officers continued to pursue the vehicle and impounded it after the occupants abandoned it in Kasingo village, Hoima West division.

The car was later taken and parked at the Albertine police regional offices as the hunt for the suspects is on going.

Toyota wish car that was abandoned by the suspected car thieves

Police has reported that there is an increase in car theft cases in the region with eight cases registered in a period of one month and they include UAT 322G premio that was stolen in Kitoole Kikuube district, UAW 760F Premio that was stolen in Kyarushesha, Kikuube district, UAJ 764S colona that was stolen in Hoima City, UAU 342B that was stolen from Edpa medical centre in Hoima City and among others.
