The Commission of Statutory Authority and State Enterprise has summoned Mrs. Janet Bamuturaki, the CEO of Uganda Airlines to answer questions raising from a report by the auditor general.
In a summon letter signed by Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, the Chairman of the PAC-COSASE, she is scheduled to appear before the Committee on Wednesday 24th August 2022 at 10:00 am.
The aim of the summons is to discuss the report of the Auditor General on the Uganda National Airlines Company Limited for financial year 2020/2021.
On Tuesday, Bamuturaki skipped a meeting between the committee and officials from the Uganda Airlines to further discuss queries raised in the Auditor General’s report for the Financial Year 2020/2021, prompting the committee chair to issue summons against her
The Airline’s manager in charge of Quality Assurance, Mr Michael Kalisa, delivered a letter notifying the committee of his boss’ failure to appear, requesting to reschedule the meeting to the second week of September, as they are fixing ‘key issues’ at their office that cannot be postponed.
However, the request was outrightly rejected by the committee. Instead, the commission issued fresh summons for Bamuturaki to appear on Wednesday without fail.
For the last one fortnight, there has been several allegations of the airline making losses during the last year that has been a subject of contention between the CEO and COSASE as well as the numerous questions araising regarding the academic qualifications of the Airline boss.
It should be recalled that the commission recently quizzed Bamuturaki and found out that she does not meet the qualifications required for the job.
According to reports, Bamuturaki told the commission that she graduated from Makerere University with Bachelor’s Degree of Social Work and Social Administration (SWASA) in 1994, but she does not have a transcript, 28 years after she graduated. It has also been discovered that she does not habe UCE result slips.
In the summons, the commission’s chair Joel Ssenyonyi has threatened to take legal actions against Bamuturaki should she fail to honor to the summons.
“Should you fail to comply to this summon, you will be subjected to consequences of non-attendance laid down in the rules of procedure of parliament and civil procedure rules,” Ssenyonyi warned
Meanwhile, Bamuturaki has appealed to the commission to discuss issues regarding Uganda Airlines outside the media arguing that the recent media reports are ruining the reputation of the national carrier.
Thus it is unknown what will come out of the discussion but more details will emerge as we follow the story up
