The chief magistrate court at Buganda Road has charged Joanitah Nkamya,a 25-yr-old stepmother with aggrevated torture of her 1o-yr stepdaughter contrary to section 3 and 4 of the prevention and prohibition of Torture Act, 2012.
Court presided over by the Chief Magistrate, Miriam Okello heard that between the month of June and July this year, Joanitah Nakamya while in Lubya Masanafu zone, Lubaga Division in Kampala, tortured her 10-year-old stepdaughter, names withheld because she is a minor.
The suspect however denied the charges and applied for a bail.
The chief magistrate granted to her a cash bail of Shs500,000 and bonded each of her sureties a UShs 1million non-cash.
The court adjourned the matter to September 30, for further mention.
The prosecution lead by Peter Mugisha expressed displeasure in granting the suspect bail, but are optimistic of getting justice.
