At least 40 exceptional students from Ugandan universities will benefit from a transformative training and mentorship at the Equity Bank innovation hub.
These were selected from over 300 Equity Leaders Program (ELP) scholars in Uganda, and they will train in app development, technology challenges, and innovative ideas for six months. They will be trained by E&M Technology, a software development company founded by ELP alumni.
The incubation program is aiming to boost productivity and creativity.
According to the bank, these 40 scholars will then join 400 other Equity Leaders Program scholars from across the region in Kenya for further training, expanding their knowledge and providing insights into the tech industry.
Anthony Kituuka, Equity Bank’s Managing Director highlighted the bank’s commitment to developing human capital through technology and innovation, highlighting the need for individuals to stay ahead of the curve in a rapidly changing global landscape.
“Equity has taken a step to equip the younger generation with a diversity of technology and innovative skills to solve future banking sector challenges in Uganda and Africa”.
The launch of this program aligns with Equity Group’s Africa Recovery and Resilience Plan (ARRP) to digitize value chains for 100 million customers, requiring skilled technical talent and innovators.
For over two decades, the Equity Leaders Program has been nurturing a community of 24,000 scholars across East Africa, equipping them to become catalysts for sustainable economic growth and social transformation.
