KAMPALA:
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has ordered Lands minister, Judith Nabakooba to carry out a probe into the alleged lease on freehold of part of the land belonging to Nabisunsa girls.
It should be recalled that the Uganda Land Commission has been accusing Nabisunsa girls of occupying a plot of land in Kyambogo, but the school denied the accusations.
The disputed land is plot M.562, which the lands commission says belongs to government and is held under freehold register Volume 320, Folio 16.
In a letter dated July 22, the commission wrote to Nabisunsa about plans to fence the land which was later established that it was going to be given to a foreign investor for redevelopments.
“The commission that the said plot was once held under a compound freehold register Volume with plot M141 which houses the Girl’s school, but the two have since been separated with the scholl, retaing plot M141 which was subsequently transferred to the Board of Governors of Nabisunsa Muslim Girls’ SS as per commission minute 13/2001(a) of 1/3/2001,”read excerpts of the letter.
This aroused disputes between the ULC and school management. Jamil Ssewanyana Mpangi, the school’s Chairman Board of Governors (BoG) told the commission that the school is the registered properties of the said land.
“As a school, we certify that our interests are as given in the information above and we do trust this will put to use all other interests vested and or otherwise in this land,” Mpagi said in a letter to the commission.
In August, the ULC chairperson Beatrice Byenkya Nyakaisiki wrote to the commissioner, land registration at the ministry of lands, housing and urban development complaining about the irregular transfer of Government land by Nabisunsa.
This was after the school revealed that it holds another title in their name vide FRV 380 Folio 7 over the same plot M562. This implies that the land has two freehold titles in different registered owners.
The ministry of lands later intervenned but either parties did not reach an agreement.
Parrots UG has reliably been told that president Museveni has directed minister Nabakooba to probe into the issue and cancel all freeholds that the commission was attempting to give to investors.
The president has further vowed that over his dead body, will take over the disputed land belonging to Nabisunsa muslim Girl’s school.
